NEWS JUST IN....   CLUB RUN - SATURDAY 31 JULY (posted Saturday 31 July 7.00pm)
A group of Border City Wheelers riders were involved in a road traffic accident this afternoon (on the Gretna - Rockcliffe road)  whilst on the regular club run.  Early reports are that Peter Priestley, Chris Dale, Nigel Athroll, Dave Rawle and Paul Gavin were all injured - the full extent has not yet been confirmed.  They are all currently being treated in Carlisle hospital.  Further details will be posted here on the situation and request that members respectfully refrain from visiting until immediate family have informed us otherwise.  Our thoughts and best wishes are with our fellow club members and families at this time.

Latest updates now available to view

Please note that the full League Excel spreadsheet can now also be viewed/downloaded by selecting "leagues" then "league tables in excel format"
Let me know if you spot any errors, Peter D (TT Sec)

The club 50 mile time trial (25th July) was shortened to 38.2 miles due to roadworks and insufficient marshals. The event started and finished at the layby north of the bridge at Westlinton (which currently has traffic lights in operation)

Congratulations to the winner of the Alf Sewell Handicap....Mike Haugh. For full results click here

Polite reminder:
Marshal rota: If you cannot attend it is YOUR responsibility to arrange a substitute and inform the Time Trial Secretary.  Failure to do so will result in you not being allowed to ride the next event you turn up for.
If there are insufficent marshals at the event to fulfil the Risk Assessment criteria, the event may be cancelled on safety grounds.

Smithfield Road Race

An enormous thanks to everyone who helped out with the various tasks (planning, sweeping roads, putting out signs, making tea and coffee before the event, marshaling, public relations with members of the local community, driving lead cars, copilot in lead cars, commissaire, collecting signs on the way back from marshaling, making tea and coffee after the event, tidying up the venue, final check on the course and collecting stray signs) involved in the organisation of the Smithfield Road Race on Sunday. The event was a great success, and Cycling Development North-West have already passed their thanks on to us for our great work.
Well done everyone!

Calum (Road Race Secretary)

End to end update:
Due to suspected food poisoning the completion of the challenge has been delayed. More details to follow.....

End-to-End with a twist
Junior club member Sam Hall and friend Simon Walker are embarking on an amazing fundraising challenge. They plan to tandem from Land's End to John O'Groats (taking in three detours adding over 200 road miles) to climb the UK's three highest peaks (Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis) To read full details please click here

‘Cycling Stories Wanted’
Now that the cycling season has started again I need results and brief reports for the Cumberland News and Cumberland and Westmorland Herald cycling reports. At the moment, I get some time trial results which is great, but I’d also like details of any other cycling event which BCW or other cyclists have taken part in – time trials, track, road racing, juniors, sportives, touring…anything. Any results plus some very short detail about the event would be ideal.’
Thanks
Dave Rawle

FOUND - ONE BORDER CITY WHEELERS CYCLING CAP at the roadside between Kirkpatrick Fleming and Gretna on Thursday 10 June (approx. 5.30pm).  If it is yours please contact GRC member exiled in Gretna, Gordon Smith on 07817 580370 to arrange its safe return.

OPEN TIME TRIAL ENTRIES (posted 1 March 2010).  Please can club members entering open time trial events ensure that they use the correct club name, ie, Border City Wheelers CC so that it appears correctly on the start sheets.  Please do not use the abbreviation BCW since another club in the area (Barrow Central Wheelers) has those initials and confusion can, and does, arise.
