OPEN TIME TRIAL ENTRIES (posted 1 March 2010).  Please can club members entering open time trial events ensure that they use the correct club name, ie, Border City Wheelers CC so that it appears correctly on the start sheets.  Please do not use the abbreviation BCW since another club in the area (Barrow Central Wheelers) has those initials and confusion can, and does, arise.

ROAD RACE SECRETARY TEMPORARY VACANCY (entered 15 February 2010).  Due a recent resignation the club is in urgent need of a Road Race Secretary plus organiser of the CDNW Road Race at Smithfield on Sunday 25 July 2010.  If anyone is interested please contact Lee Foster on Lee.FOSTER@eur.crowncork.com as soon as possible.

VALENTINE'S DAY RELIABILITY RIDE (A Ride for Bike Lovers) (updated 15 February 2010)
Sunday 14 February 2010.  There was a fantastic turn out on Sunday, 90 senior riders and around 15-20 young ones - the most participants we have ever had for such an event.  Thanks to all who took part, with a special thanks to riders from visiting clubs, especially Honister 92 and Derwent Valley (I hope BCW members will support their forthcoming events as well).  A special mention should be made of the Border City Juniors who showed great determination in completing their own course of over 40 miles.  I am sure that if these kids keep 'digging in' they will have a great future in the sport.
Although the new format proved to be a success, HQ, route and feedstation (thanks to Harry and Sheila), I was concerned about the individual groups.  In future there will be a maximum of 15-20 riders in each group, that may mean the first group will be split into two with a gap of a few minutes.  I am always surprised by certain riders opting to ride in groups slower than their ability.  This can cause the speed of the group to increase, leaving lesser riders struggling to hang on, some of who will be new to the sport and may not return.  This applies to both the 4 and 3.5 hour groups, so come on, for the next event think about it and show some grit.  You know who you are!
